Announcement of the overall adjustment of the construction master plan for the Dung Quat economic zone to 2045

On March 30, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai Province held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's Decision No. 168/QD-TTg dated February 28, 2023, approving the overall adjustment of the general planning for the construction of the Dung Quat economic zone to 2045.

Deputy Minister of Construction, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Van; leaders of the Department of Planning and Architecture under the Ministry of Construction; and representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment attended the event.

Established by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 50 dated 11/3/2005, the Dung Quat Economic Zone has made great progress and is considered one of the most successful EZs in the country. It is the growth nucleus of Quang Ngai province. Dung Quat EZ has made significant contributions to the development of Quang Ngai province as well as to local budget revenue.

From 2009 on, it has become a province with a large revenue source for the whole country, with an economy of 121,668 trillion VND; it has created jobs for about 65,000 workers; and it has made an important contribution to the general development of the Central Key Economic Region.

However, the construction master plan for Dung Quat Economic Zone has been approved by the Prime Minister since 2011. Some contents are inadequate and have not been fully promoted, including the development potential and advantages of Dung Quat EZ in the new period. Therefore, the adjustment of the construction master plan for Dung Quat EZ is very necessary.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dang Van Minh thanked the attention and direction of the government and the Prime Minister. He emphasized that the adjustment of the overall master plan for the construction of Dung Quat EZ until 2045 is an important legal basis for Quang Ngai province to promptly remove bottlenecks and limitations for the province.

It will meet the development investment needs in the new period. It is also an important step to concretize new development strategies for the country and region.

It will lay the groundwork for the successful implementation of socioeconomic development goals while also ensuring national defense, the security of Quang Ngai province in particular, and the security of the North Central region.

The Prime Minister's approval to extend the master plan for the Dung Quat EZ until 2045 is significant.

This will be a critical tool for the province in organizing, managing, and controlling investment and development activities in the Dung Quat EZ.

There is still a lot of work to be done in order to concretize and realize the plan, and there will be many difficulties and challenges that will require us to put in more effort and show more determination.

The Provincial People's Committee Chairman requested that the Authority of Dung Quat Economic Zone and Quang Ngai Industrial Parks chair and coordinate with the People's Committees of Binh Son, Son Tinh, Ly Son, and Quang Ngai City districts to expedite implementation.

Furthermore, party committees, front levels, and authorities in the districts of Binh Son, Son Tinh, Ly Son, and Quang Ngai are responsible for propagating and disseminating the Dung Quat Economic Zone construction master plan by 2045 to all people.

They work quickly with relevant departments and localities to develop and submit construction zoning planning projects, detailed planning, and urban design for functional zones in Dung Quat EZ for approval.

The chairman of the PPC requested that, in accordance with their respective functions and tasks, heads of departments, departments and branches, and chairpersons of people's committees of localities located in EZs urgently review and submit to competent authorities for adjustment of relevant planning and plans to ensure conformity with the approved master plan on construction of Dung Quat EZ until 2045. At the same time, they work closely with the Authority of the Dung Quat Economic Zone and the Quang Ngai Industrial Parks to implement the plan.

Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van stated at the announcement ceremony that the Party and Government have high expectations for the master adjustment project of the Dung Quat EZ construction master plan, which will bring resources, opportunities, and new potential for Dung Quat EZ to develop strongly, contributing to the development of Quang Ngai province, the Central region, and the entire country.
